Dear Brother’s, Sister’s & Retiree’s of Laborer’s Local # 652:
I wish to extend my most sincere greetings and wish you and your family a very Happy & Prosperous New Year. I also
hope you and your loved ones are doing well and in good health.
Since my last letter to you, our country has sworn in a new President and we look forward to a better country for the working men and women with the hope of a better future for us, our children, and generations to come.
This letter is my “State of the Local” update, giving you information on where we were when this administration took
over the day to day operations of the local, and where we are today in that effort.
State of the Local – Pre May 2002
The current administration lead by myself and a team of dedicated, and qualified individuals were installed in May
2002. Prior to our appointment, the local was in complete disarray, being run by individuals who were more interested in
what they could get for themselves, than what was best for the local and its members.
When I took over this responsibility, I informed the members that the primary goal of my administration was to serve
the best interest of our members, and everything else was secondary.
With that goal in mind, we set about correcting the errors of several past administrations.
State of the Local – June 2003
During the eighteen months the local was in Trusteeship, I initiated dispatch procedures that were fair to every member
of our local, and I made sure that all dispatches were run through this procedure in an effort to identify any unfairness
in the system and stop it.
We set about looking at cost cutting measures, where they could be instituted, in order to run this local in a more business-
like manner so as to turn around the downward slide in our local’s financial outlook. We worked hard at policing the field to ensure that our members working here in Orange County had their share of the work, and it was not being taken by members of other locals.
